FBI has found a large number of counterfeit Cisco Routers in active production at secure US Military and Intelligence facilities. The origin of the counterfeits are Chinese manufacturers, and possibly the Chinese government itself. A lot of the fault is the IT supply chain to the US Government, 2nd and 3rd tier companies weren’t held up to the same standards as the 1st tier suppliers, or even the manufacturer. Plus until very recently, the US Government didn’t require the same paperwork on the origins of IT hardware as they do for a whole host of other products.
