New York City pharmacist has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison for his role in a $5 million Medicaid fraud ring. Attorney General Andrew Cuomo says Rauf (RAHF) Ahmad (A-MAHD) was sentenced Wednesday in Bronx Supreme Court after pleading guilty to grand larceny, conspiracy and scheme to defraud the state by unlawfully selling prescriptions. Jersey City, N.J. resident is accused of purchasing bogus prescriptions and Medicaid beneficiary cards to bill Medicaid on behalf of the pharmacies he owned. Cuomo says Medicaid paid Ahmad more than $5 million for the fake prescriptions. Cuomo says the scheme occurred between November 2005 and October 2006, and involved large money transfers to bank accounts in Pakistan.
