Clarence W. Burk, of 7614 Lauther Road, was charged with insurance fraud and offering a false instrument for filing. If convicted, he could face up to seven years in prison. 73-year-old Rome man will be in court Aug. 28 on charges he improperly took $27,089 in workers’ compensation benefits while employed as a driver for Birnie Bus Service, according to the New York State Insurance Department.
Investigator Anthony J. Sobon of the Insurance Department’s Frauds Bureau said Burk falsely claimed he had been unable to work since suffering a work-related injury in 2005. Burk, who surrendered to New York State Police, is scheduled to appear for a hearing in Salina Town Court in Onondaga County on Aug. 28.
