U.S. District Judge Paul Magnuson sentenced 47-year-old Gregory Jaunich of North Oaks to 21 months in prison and three years supervised release on one count of mail fraud.former manager of a Minnesota wind power company has been sentenced to nearly two years in prison for bilking Xcel Energy of up to $400,000 in a mail fraud case.
Jaunich earlier pleaded guilty. He was accused of sending fraudulently inflated bills to Xcel Energy for wind power during 2003 and 2004.
Jaunich was the manager of Northern Alternative Energy-Shaokatan Power Partners. The company had an agreement to sell wind energy power to Xcel Energy, then called Northern States Power.Prosecutors say Jaunich told employees to bill NSP even though he knew 1 of the wind turbines wasn't producing power.
