SEC Moves Closer To Forcing Most Hedge Funds To Register - Focus on Funds - Barrons.com: "Securities and Exchange Commission today voted in favor of requiring most hedge funds to register with the government and open their books for inspections by regulators.
Also expected to be brought out of the shadows will be private equity funds.
Before it becomes official, the changes have to go through a public hearing process.
The decision is considered a victory by the venture capital community, which will largely be exempt from the new rule, according to a WSJ report."
