Clarence W. Burk, of 7614 Lauther Road, was charged with insurance fraud and offering a false instrument for filing. If convicted, he could face up to seven years in prison. 73-year-old Rome man will be in court Aug. 28 on charges he improperly took $27,089 in workers’ compensation benefits while employed as a driver for Birnie Bus Service, according to the New York State Insurance Department. <br />Investigator Anthony J. Sobon of the Insurance Department’s Frauds Bureau said Burk falsely claimed he had been unable to work since suffering a work-related injury in 2005. Burk, who surrendered to New York State Police, is scheduled to appear for a hearing in Salina Town Court in Onondaga County on Aug. 28.
