Former employee of the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has been charged with corruption.

Former employee of the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has been charged with corruption.The 32-year-old man would appear in Wellington District Court today.<br />Detective Senior Sergeant Darrin Thomson said the charge was a result of a complaint made in early July after a Chinese business couple approached police.The couple's concerns were investigated and the man was arrested.He made an initial appearance in Wellington District Court in July facing a charge of demanding with intent to steal.<br />He has now also been charged with corruption.Mr Thomson said police had worked closely with the IRD throughout the investigation, and it was a good example of inter-agency cooperation."Police also hope that this investigation will encourage members of the Asian community, or any other ethnic group, to be confident about coming to police if they are worried they may be a victim of crime," he said.
