Carol Ribauldo, 52, was sentenced to 57 months in federal prison, while Sonja Ritz, 28, was sentenced to 37 months, according to U.S. Attorney John L. Ratcliffe's office. The women were also ordered to pay restitution on Monday.
In August, a jury found Ms. Ribauldo and Ms. Ritz, both of Clearwater, Fla., guilty of one count of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, five counts of mail fraud, and nine counts of wire fraud in connection. Ms. Ribauldo and Ms. Ritz operated the travel-related Elite Business Service in McKinney between July 2003 and January 2004. During the trial, prosecutors presented 30 witnesses and nearly 200 exhibits. The two women were accused of accepting payment from prospective cruise clients, but then never contracted with a cruise line.
